Lots of planning and practice brought success

VEROUSHIA Padayachee topped the 2013 class of Raisethorpe Secondary in Pietermaritzburg with an impressive nine distinctions.

She received distinctions for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, geography, life science, physical science and maths paper three.

“I planned in advance and went through lots of past papers. It is good to make a list of your subjects and focus on your weakest subjects to improve,” said Veroushia.

She will be studying chemical engineering either at the University of Cape Town or UKZN.

“The world is constantly changing, and I want to be part of that change. I want to make a difference where I can.”

Another Padayachee from Pietermaritzburg also came out tops in her school by receiving eight distinctions.

Jerisa Padayachee from Carter High received distinctions for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, life science, physical science and maths paper three.

“I learned not just for a test, but to gain knowledge. I think that helped. It was a lot of hard work but I went to gym to relax.” said Jerisa, who will be studying civil engineering at the University of the Witswaterstrand.

Four pupils from Raisethorpe Secondary also did the school proud by receiving eight distinctions each.

Leshalen Govender received distinctions for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, business studies, economics and maths paper three. He will be studying accounting at UKZN.

Sameer Jayram received distinctions for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, life science, physical science and maths paper three. He will be studying chemical engineering at UKZN.

Seylan Naidoo revised past question papers to prepare, and decided not to stress too much.

He received distinctions for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, life science, physical science and maths paper three.

He plans to study mechatronics engineering at the University of Cape Town.

For Rahul Singh, paying attention in class and listening to teachers helped him do well. He received distinctions for English home language, Afrikaans first additional language, mathematics, life orientation, accounting, life science, physical science and maths paper three. He will either study medicine, engineering or computer science.
