M19/Umgeni Road carriageways to be closed to traffic

2014-04-23 00:00

THE west- and east-bound carriageways of the M19/Umgeni Road where the road runs under the N2 will be closed between 9 pm and 4 am from today until Friday.

The closures will enable workers to construct the deck elements for the new bridge over the M19/Umgeni Road to allow for the free flow of traffic when the interchange is completed and fully operational in October, the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) said in a statement yesterday.

Motorists intending to travel on the M19/Umgeni Road towards the N2 during this period are advised to use alternate routes.

For safety and access reasons, these concrete elements can only be installed if the road is completely closed to traffic.

According to Sanral, the closures are scheduled to take place at night during off-peak traffic periods to reduce the impact on and inconvenience to road users.

Some on- and off-ramps on the interchange will remain operational with closures for specific directions only. The road closures will be clearly signposted.
