MSC Sola: Berthing of largest container ship delayed

MARITME history was delayed by a few more hours after the arrival of the largest container ship to berth in South Africa was put off until this morning.

The enormous MSC Sola was scheduled to port in Durban yesterday afternoon. However, without a berth available, the decision was made to stay out at sea until today. Transnet National Ports Authority said in a statement it pushed back the arrival for “safety considerations”.

The docking will be momentous because five women — four at the helm of four tugs — have been entrusted to guide the vessel in.
