Information on all courses and events happening at Macs Cafe and Art Gallery during August.

Mondays: 4th, 10th and 18th August (9am-12noon)

Drawing and painting with Penny Forder. Students have the opportunity of developing their own drawing or painting projects with personal advice, guidance and tuition. R255 MACS members and R300 non-MACS members for 3 sessions. Places limited so please book early by phoning MACS 033 386 6500 or Penny 0721433008.

Monday 25th August (9am-12noon)

Figure Drawing with a model Back by popular demand. Tutored class to hone your skills and learn more about life drawing. R100 MACS members and R120 non-MACS members, inclusive of model fees. Places limited so please book early by phoning MACS 033 386 6500 or Penny 0721433008.

Tuesdays: 19th August (10am-12noon)

Tuesday Painters @ MACS with Jinny Heath. For painters (and draughtsmen) of some experience who would like a forum in which to show and discuss their most recent work or work-in-progress with like-minded people. Limited number of students can be accommodated. R65 MACS members and R75 non-MACS members per session. (This will be a monthly forum to be held again on 16th September, 21st October and 18th November). Tuesdays: 29th July and 5th, 12th and 26th August (9am-12noon)

Beginners Drawing with Penny Forder. Beginners drawing using the right side of the brain. An intensive course designed to make you draw and think like an artist. Learn to draw quickly with this course which makes drawing accessible to anyone. Learn to think like an artist in terms of line, shape, tone and composition. R340 MACS members and R395 non-MACS members for 4 sessions. Places limited so please book early by phoning MACS 033 386 6500 or Penny 0721433008 and receive requirements list.

Wednesdays: 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August (9am-12noon)

MACS Wednesday Art Club – an interactive group. Work in medium and level of choice. All welcome. R25 per session. Phone 033 386 6500.

Thursdays: 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th August (9am-12noon)

Creative Thursdays will concentrate on freestyle machine embroidery, catering for people at all levels of experience. You have to be on good speaking terms with your sewing machine! A portfolio of course examples is available at the MACS office, as well as a list of requirements. This is not restricted to "wearable". R340 MACS members and R395 non-MACS members for 4 sessions, R120 for 1 session. Please book by phoning 033 386 6500.

Saturdays: Wild Knitting : 2nd and 16th August (9am-12noon)

It’s not nearly as “wild” as you might think. Join us and knit whichever way you like, check out all our gorgeous yarns, and feel better about practically anything by the end of the morning. Bring some yarn & needles, crochet if you like. There is no formal tuition, but free advice is given to all by all! Beginners and rusty knitters welcome. R25 per session. Introduction to Freestyle Machine Embroidery with Jutta Faulds. If you want to learn how you can make your sewing machine do what YOU want it to, then this may be for you. You don’t need a fancy machine for this, but you should be on good terms with the one you have got. A portfolio of class examples is at the MACS office (or check in the craft shop on Saturdays) as well as a list of requirements. R190 for both sessions. Please book by phoning 033 386 6500.

Saturday 30th August (1.30pm to 4pm): Join Clare Smith and learn to make flat felt using the wet felting method. R50 for the afternoon includes tea/coffee, a ball of fleece (either white or dyed) and your tuition. Bring your own embellishments i.e. beads, sequins, silk strands and wool or buy supplies @ MACS Craft Shop. Phone 033 386 6500 to book as space is limited.
