Majola Week on track now

2013-12-20 00:00

FINALLY the teams playing in the Khaya Majola Week in and around Durban enjoyed a full day’s play yesterday as the rain stayed away.

Teams were involved in limited-overs matches, with the KZN U19 side taking on Western Province U19 at Smith Oval, Kearsney College. The match was lit up by Province opener and keeper Clyde Fortuin, who struck 123 from 115 balls with 13 fours and two sixes after his captain, Zubayr Hamza, won the toss and batted.

This innings was the platform for Province’s 290-6 from 46 overs, a handsome total to defend and one which proved beyond a game the KZN batting effort.

It looked all over for KZN at 189-8, but SA U19 all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo (Glenwood) struck 50* from 30 balls, sharing a last wicket partnership of 53 with DHS’s Ainsley Ndlovu (19) to get the total to a respectable 248, losing by 42 runs.

Westville’s Luke Schlemmer top scored for KZN with a gritty 53.
