Malema: DA calls for HRC action

2008-07-14 00:00

Cape Town — The Democratic Alliance called on the SA Human Rights Commission yesterday to take action against ANC Youth League president Julius Malema for his latest utterances.

DA parliamentary leader Sandra Botha said she has written to HRC chairman Jody Kollapen to ask the commission to investigate Malema’s weekend comment that “remnants of the counter-revolution”, including the DA and those opposed to ANC president Jacob Zuma becoming South Africa’s next president, must be “eliminated”.

Botha said that, in the context of Malema’s previous call for people to “kill in support of Jacob Zuma”, it is not unreasonable to assume that he is calling for the killing of members of the DA or those working in the country’s judicial institutions to ensure that justice is dispensed.

“Malema may have adjusted his vocabulary, but his intentions clearly remain the same,” she said.
