Man (40) robbed of pants, shoes

2009-05-06 00:00

Two men who robbed a 40-year-old of his pants and shoes in the early hours of yesterday morning, will soon appear in court on charges of robbery.

According to police spokesman, Superintendent Henry Budhram, the robbery occurred near the Masukwane taxi rank in Church Street.

“It is alleged that Mr Ashraaf Mohamed (40) was walking along Church Street when he was approached by two unknown men,” said Budhram.

“The men allegedly invited Mohamed to join them around a fire on the side of the road; he agreed, settled in and moments later, fell asleep.”

Budhram said Mohamed was later awoken by the two men —one of whom was seated on his stomach.

“The other suspect produced an empty bottle, threatened Mohamed, searched his pockets and took cash to the value of R250 and his carry bag containing his clothing,” said Budhram. “The suspects then removed Mohamed’s shoes and trousers from him before fleeing on foot along Church Street.”

Mohamed went quickly to a nearby public phone booth and called the police.

Investigations led the SAPS dog unit to the arrest of the two suspects along Church Street.

“They were positively identified by the complainant,” said Budhram. “Mohamed’s bag and clothing was found in the suspects’ possession, which was handed back to him.”

Budhram added that the suspects are aged between 23 and 24 years old.

Investigations continue.
