Man finds wife’s burnt body after multiple car crash

A WORRIED husband from Roodepoort on the West Rand, who was on Sunday morning prepared to drive all the way to the East Rand to look for his wife, instead found her charred body at a dangerous crossing just 150 metres from their home.

Her car was totally burnt out after a multi-vehicle collision.

“I saw certain things … her posture, her skeleton and part of her hand. Then I knew she would never come back,” said Akani Mashimbye, a risk manager, yesterday.

His wife, Tisetso Mashimbye (27), a recruitment consultant, had taken her three-year-old twins, Nunuza and Bafoza, for a overnight visit with their maternal grandmother in Vosloorus on Saturday.

Tisetso was on her way home at 2 am on Sunday morning when an Opel OPC crashed at high speed into the back of her Audi A4, said metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar. Her Audi A4 then collided with a Kia Rio.

The driver of the Opel and two women in the Kia were slightly injured and taken to different hospitals, but Tisetso died on the scene, said Werner Vermaak of ER24. Her car burst into flames within seconds of the crash.

Mashimbye said he awoke at 4 am and was worried when he checked the time and realised his wife was not home. “I had spoken to her last at about midnight when she left Vosloorus. I was planning to follow the route she would have driven. But I had just left my gate when I saw all the ambulances.

“The flames were already doused, but my wife’s body was still in the car.”
