Man held, three on run for killing

POLICE have arrested a 21-year-old suspect and are searching for three others in connection with the gruesome murder of Jabulani Wiseman Bhengu (59). Bhengu died of multiple injuries in the Mnyandu area in rural Plessislaer at the weekend.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said the police have not yet been able to establish the motive for the murder and the arrest was based on information received by investigators.

She said Bhengu’s body was found at about 11 am yesterday by a family member in a section of a rondavel which is used for cooking.

She said there were signs of a severe struggle between Bhengu and his attackers leading from the entrance into the rondavel itself.

Bhengu sustained eight stab wounds to his abdomen and chest; his throat was slit; he suffered a severe gash to his head above the right eye, cuts to his finger and burn wounds to various parts of his body.

She said the burn injuries are believed to have been inflicted during attempts by the killers to set fire to the body which failed.

Jeevan said Bhengu lived alone.
