Man in dock over seven murders

2012-09-14 00:00

DURBAN police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with seven cases of murder, one of rape and one of assault with intent to do grevious bodily harm.

The crimes were committed at KwaMashu men’s hostel between 2011 and 2012.

“All these cases were committed in KwaMashu men’s hostel, where people were allegedly shot and killed,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge.

“The suspect appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court and he was remanded in custody until September 17 for a bail application,” said Mdunge.

Police linked the suspect to three murders at Rotary Stadium in the hostel in September last year.

“All three deceased — Oluhle Mahiliza, Mthokozisi Mzobe and Mphiliseni Ngenge — had gunshot wounds to their heads.

The fourth victim was wounded during the attack and managed to escape. The motive of the attack was unknown,” said Mdunge.

After his arrest in August 25, the man was also linked to four more murders in the same hostel.

Provincial Commissioner Mmamonnye Ngobeni appealed to anyone who had been victimised by the suspect to come forward so he could be charged.
