Man in fear after ‘bombing’

2014-11-28 00:00

NATHI Mthalale is living in fear after both his houses were petrol bombed in Impendle on Wednesday night.

He said the incident is politically motivated because his Jikijela Youth on Change, an organisation dealing with social ills, has been exposing community leaders who are not providing service delivery.

He said they tried to extinguish the fire but it was at an advanced stage. He said he did not bother calling Impendle Municipality’s fire department because they have one bakkie and its engine that pumps water is not operating. He said he had initially thought an electrical fault may have caused the fire but dismissed that thought when he found that windows had been broken and there were stones on his bed.

“All of my belongings were burnt. I’m now scared and it is not safe,” he said.

He said earlier in the day a municipal official had warned him that “we will do anything to protect our side” if he continues questioning how they work.

The ward councillor could not be drawn to comment and police said the matter was not reported to them.
