A RICHARDS Bay man has been convicted and sentenced to 39 years in jail for raping his daughter.

Last Friday the Richards Bay Regional Court found the man guilty for raping his daughter when she was 11.

The man had sexually assaulted the girl and eventually raped her between 1999 and 2011. He also threatened to kill his daughter in 2001.

In August 2011, a case of rape was opened at Richards Bay police station and after investigations the accused was arrested and charged with rape.

KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the conviction and sentence of this father.

“Our endeavours to effectively investigate reported crimes instills hope to victims of crime and sends out a clear message to criminals that we will trace, arrest and successfully prosecute them,” said Ngobeni.
