Man killed in Jika Joe settlement

2012-10-25 00:00

A MAN was murdered and robbed in Jika Joe informal settlement after he and a friend were lured there by two women on Tuesday morning.

Three people — a man and two women in their mid 20s — were later arrested after the man’s body, with a stab wound to the chest, was found dumped in a field in Jika Joe.

The victim’s cellphone was found in one of the arrested suspects’ possession, said police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan.

“It is believed that earlier in the morning, the deceased and a friend were walking in the CBD when they were approached by two females who lured them into the settlement,” said Jeevan.

She said the two were later approached by another two unknown men who demanded cash.

“It is alleged that a struggle ensued between them, which resulted in one of the suspects producing a knife and stabbing both victims, injuring one and fatally wounding the other.

“The wounded man is believed to have run away from the scene and his whereabouts are unknown at this stage,” Jeevan said.

She said the dead man, who has not yet been identified, was about 22 years old, and hails from Underberg.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court shortly, where they will face charges of murder and robbery.

Jeevan appealed to anyone who could help in identifying the dead man or in locating his family to contact Warrant Officer Calvin Adimulan on 033 845 2760 or 083 658 0482.
