Man rescued from top of cliff near Hillcrest

2013-09-17 00:00

A MAN who was found stranded at the top of a cliff in the Molweni Waterfall area, near Hillcrest, was rescued by the police and paramedics yesterday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said it was believed that the man started his climb at about 6 pm on Sunday. It is not known why the man had decided to climb the cliff. Jackson said paramedics were on the scene at around 7.30 am yesterday.

“The man was not injured during his climb up the 30-metre rock face. It is not clear how he got to the position he was found in as there were no ropes or climbing gear attached to him,” she said, adding that the Molweni police took the man to a local clinic for further assessment.

She said the man was seated when he was found. “Paramedics tried to climb to where he was, but were unable to reach him. A police rescue unit helicopter was deployed to reach the man.”

In one of the pictures taken at the scene and supplied to The Witness, the man appeared to be naked.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker confirmed the incident. He said no case had been opened nor injuries reported.
