Man shoots wife and her lover, then hands himself over to police

A MAN and a woman who were involved in a love triangle were shot dead by the woman’s enraged husband in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A 48-year-old man shot and killed his wife, Malulu Mzobe (30), and her boyfriend, Nkosinathi Meyiwa (40), after he caught them in bed together.

Mzobe allegedly told her husband earlier on Saturday that she was visiting her mother in Hilton.

Her friend, Nontokozo Thusile, said Mzobe arrived at her house carrying her two-month-old baby boy.

“It was in the evening when they came here and said they will be sleeping in the shack at the back of the house.

“As I was sleeping my boyfriend arrived and for some reason he went to the shack and saw the two sleeping.

“He came back into the house and asked me why I had let them sleep there knowing that Malulu is married.

“He left saying he was going to tell the husband what was happening,” said Thusile.

A short while later the door of the shack was kicked in and gunshots were fired.

Another friend, who wished to remain anonymous, said the Mzobe couple and Meyiwa lived in the same street and that the husband used to go drinking with Meyiwa.

“We knew about their affair, but there was nothing we could do.

“Malulu’s husband is doing everything for her and she is the only one who could tell why she betrayed him with a man from the same street,” said the friend.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said the man handed himself to the police.

Jeevan said, “Alexandra Road police were on routine patrol in the France area when they were stopped by the suspect.

“He handed over his firearm to the police and told them that he had just shot his wife and her lover.

“On arrival at the house the bodies of Mzobe and Meyiwa were found on the bed with three and two gunshot wounds [respectively] to their bodies.

“The two month-old baby was not harmed.”

She confirmed that the suspect was tipped off that his wife was in bed with another man.

When he met the police he was en route to the police station to hand himself over.

The shooter will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court shortly.
