Man shot in head after alleged attempted robbery

2014-12-02 00:00

A MAN was shot in the head when he allegedly tried to rob another man sitting in his car at the corner of Boshoff and Langalibalele streets late yesterday.

According to a police source who cannot be named, a man approached another man in his car and demanded his belongings.

The man then pulled out his firearm and shot the alleged would-be robber in the head and again in the chest.

The source said the second bullet went through the alleged robber’s leg and hit a bystander in the leg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the bystander had not even realised she had been shot and thought something had jumped up and bitten her.

Meiring said although the alleged robber was stabilised on scene, he was in a critical condition. He was taken to Grey’s Hospital.

“Gunshot wounds to the head are very serious and in my medical experience, the prognosis is not positive.”

Moola Family Physician personal assistant Anusha Bandu said although she had not witnessed the shooting, she had seen a man race by the building that was a few metres from where the incident took place.

“There were a lot of rumours going around about what happened but all we saw was someone running past our offices,” said Bandu.

“Every hour someone is pickpocketed on this corner. I have worked here 25 years and it has gone from bad to worse.”

Bandu said women and elderly people were mostly the targets for these sorts of crimes and said expert policing was desperately needed in the area.

Attempts to get official comment from police were unsuccessful last night.
