Man with 40 stab wounds is stable

2011-11-08 00:00

THE man who was stabbed 40 times in his house in Alexandra Road on Saturday is in a stable condition in hospital.

Health spokesperson Chris Maxon said Bongani Ndlovu (23) is recovering in Edendale Hospital after he was attacked by two “friends” in front of his girlfriend.

The attack took place a stone’s throw from the Alexandra Road police station.

One of the men who attacked Ndlovu lives on the same property.

A neighbour who declined to be named, told The Witness that Ndlovu was crying, “I’m dying. I’m dying”.

But there was little that the neighbour could do because the attackers had locked themselves inside while they were stabbing him.

“I tried telling them to stop, but they said they’d come after me when they were done with him.”

The neighbour, who has known Ndlovu for years, said the 23-year-old was lying on his bed while the men hacked and stabbed him with a panga and a screwdriver.

“They stabbed him all over his body. The saddest part is that these people knew him.”

Ndlovu lives at what was once a bowling club. The yard is not fenced and the building is dilapidated.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said it is alleged that the attackers had an argument with Ndlovu “regarding an old unresolved issue”.

The neighbour said he understood the issue was a charge of theft that Ndlovu had laid against one of the men and then withdrew.

After being summoned to the scene of the stabbing police immediately conducted a search for the suspects. who were described to them and soon

Two men seen walking near Alexandra Park were arrested. The suspects are aged between 30 and 35, Jeevan added.

They are due to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court shortly.
