Mangaungbuild-up: KZN all set

2012-08-27 00:00

THE ANC’s two-day provincial lekgotla held in Howick on Friday and Saturday ended with the party and its alliance partners committing themselves to a course of action on several fronts.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal reiterated that the party in the province remained united.

In a statement it said it believed the build-up in KZN to the ANC’s elective conference in Mangaung would go smoothly.

The provincial ANC said it did not expect problems in the processes leading up to the congress, which included the auditing of branches, nominating delegates to the congress and the nomination of candidates for all national executive committee positions, which would start in October.

At the lekgotla, the party crafted an implementation plan to ensure good governance in all departments and municipalities.

A key concern was over irregular expenditure, which seemed to be on the rise in some municipalities.

ANC leaders will also be visiting schools that have reported a high incidence of teenage pregnancies and drug abuse.

The party will also be part of a campaign to mobilise society against the abuse of women and children.

It will also launch a “know your neighbour campaign”, aimed at helping communities deal with social ills such as drug abuse in a co-ordinated manner.
