Marathon: Dave Dixon to talk on City’s ‘treasure’

2010-06-01 00:00

THE South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), in conjunction with the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, is hosting Dave Dixon, chairperson of the Comrades Marathon Association, for a talk entitled “The Great Comrades Marathon — A Pietermaritzburg Treasure”.

Dixon has been involved in the organisation and management of the ultra marathon for the past 28 years. He understands better than most how valuable this event is to the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban, particularly in recent years when the race has gained more international popularity.

He will speak about the event, its development, noteworthy aspects of the 2010 race, the challenges and the successes.

Outside the Comrades, Dixon is a successful businessman.

The talk takes place on June 10 at 12.30 pm at Chamber House. The entrance fee for SAIIA members is R80, for members of PCB R100, non-members R120, and students R40 (on production of student card).

A finger lunch will be served and a cash bar will be available.

Bookings can be made through Lorna Jones at 033 345 2747 or fax 033 394 4151, or e-mail function@pcb.org.za.
