Marathon: Roads closed for Sunday's PostNet race

This Sunday, 2 600 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes will be hitting the streets of Pietermaritzburg for the popular PostNet Weekend Witness Maritzburg Marathon and Half-marathon, organised by Carbineers and Orion athletics clubs.

Some streets will be closed to traffic from 3 am on Sunday. These are: Geere Street between Miller and Chief Albert Luthuli (Commercial), which will be closed until 11 am; Chief Albert Luthuli between Prince Alfred and Geere, (closed until 5.30 am) and Jabu Ndlovu Street, between Retief and West, (closed from 5 to 5.45 am).

Organisers have asked that all road users be patient and obey the marshals and traffic officers.

Registration will take place at the Carbineers Drill Hall, between 1 and 6 pm on Saturday and from 4 to 4.45 am on Sunday.

The race starts at 5 am in Chief Albert Luthuli Street between the two old cemeteries.

The wheelchair athletes will start at 4.50 am.

On Sunday there will be food and refreshments on sale as well as tea, coffee and eats for participants.
