Matric: Dept ready for re-write roll out

2008-05-02 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Ina Cronje, has said it is all systems go for over 100 000 candidates who have registered to write the May/June Senior Certificate Examination.

Just days away from the first examination, which starts next Monday, Cronje confirmed that the necessary logistics for the sit-in are in place.

“A detailed roll-out plan has been drafted that will enable us to ensure that the entire examination process runs smoothly from when the candidates start writing their exams until the last paper is written and the last script is marked,” she said.

The candidates are pupils who were unsuccessful in the 2007 examination and previous years, and will be writing the May/June exam under the now phased-out Nated 550 curriculum. According to the department spokeswoman, Mbali Thusi, 570 examination centres have been set up across the province for the examinations, which will run until June 13.

She said candidates can contact the district office to collect timetables or verify exam details as no-one will be allowed access to the exam venues without timetables and proper identification.

Cronje wished all candidates the best of luck, saying that the fact that KZN has the biggest number of candidates enrolled is an indication that the province remains committed to getting everyone learning, whatever it takes.
