Matric trial exams delayed as 600 study centres open

2010-08-27 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Education Department has decided to postpone matric trial examinations, but the good news is that a large number of learning centres are up and running across the province to help matrics prepare.

The decision to postpone the mock exams follows similar moves in Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Free State , and comes after calls by anxious parents.

Matriculants in the province will now write from September 8, six days later than originally scheduled.

Schools with a pass rate lower than 60% are obliged to write the provincially set preparatory examinations.

New timetables for the exams will be available at learning centres, district offices and at www.kzneducation.gov.za

The learning centres were started as a result of the continued harassment of pupils by strikers at schools.

Department spokesperson Mbali Thusi said close to 600 centres had been established by yesterday.

The centres are expected to stock revision material.

Pupils and parents can call 086 059 6363 for the location of their nearest learning centre.
