Max Mqadi spreads the cheer on Mandela day

2011-07-19 00:00

MAX Mqadi needs little introduction to the Umlazi community in Durban.

He is known as the owner of the famous Max’s Lifestyle Centre.

But yesterday it wasn’t business as usual, because Nelson Mandela Day meant spending the day giving back.

“Today my crew and I visited various locations in Umlazi and did feeding schemes where our world famous pap and vleis was an all-time favourite,” said Max.

He handed out blankets and nappies, which were well received by people in the impoverished areas of Umlazi.

“Infants are very vulnerable and need that extra care so we focused a lot of our work on them,” he said.

Max described Mandela as his role model and said the world should follow in his Madiba’s noble path.

“My business is thriving, and on any weekend there are up to 3 000 guests having a good time.

“I think if Mandela were younger he would have definitely made a visit if not been a regular here.

“We will not stop at Madiba Day — our work will be a regular commitment, as we have been doing in the past,” Max said.

Former eThekwini mayor Obed Mlaba and other high-ranking ANC officials and businesspeople are known to frequent the hot-spot.

Recently ANC Youth League president Julius Malema reputedly spurned an official party to attend a lavish private party at Max’s Lifestyle.
