Mayoral bodyguard held for shooting cousin

A MAN believed to be a mayoral bodyguard is expected to appear in court today in Howick on charges of murder after he fired a municipal-owned pistol at his wife when she criticised his driving, and instead killed a man identified as his cousin.

A police spokesperson yesterday confirmed the incident, which happened at Mpophomeni on Sunday night.

“Earlier in the evening, the suspect, his 35-year-old wife and his cousin, Jabulani Nkomo (30), were driving home along Idube Street when an argument between the suspect and his wife, regarding his driving abilities, ensued.”

The suspect stopped the car and got out and his wife climbed over to the driver’s seat. He then allegedly took out his licensed service pistol and fired a shot through the windscreen of the car towards his wife, narrowly missing her.

She sped off and drove home.

When she arrived at home she found Nkomo’s body on the back seat of car. He had been shot in the head.

A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested at the house, and was found with a licensed CZ 75 9mm pistol, which is believed to have been be used in the incident.
