Meanwhile, back at the farm

2009-04-22 00:00

The ANC received complaints from farmworkers who claimed they were being refused the right to go and vote. Party heavyweight and provincial executive committee member Ina Cronjé went to a farm in the Camperdown/Eston area to sort out one such problem, which was amicably resolved.

Koos Marais, from the KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Union security desk, said the call had been made to farmers to arrange workers’ duties to allow them time off to vote, but stressed that the nature of farming meant that some tasks had to be carried out.

“Cows still have to be milked and pigs still have to be fed,” said Marais.
