Media mob Pistorius

2014-05-27 00:00

OSCAR Pistorius had to patiently wait his turn yesterday as officials at the Weskoppies Psychiatry Hospital in the Pretoria West checked each car to prevent unauthorised media from entering the grounds.

Pistorius must report every day at 9 am for 30 days to a panel of three psychiatrists and a clinical psychologist, who will observe him to decide if he was criminally accountable when he shot his girlfriend, the model Reeva Steenkamp, through a closed toilet door on February 14, 2013 in his home.

Hoping to get a unique photo of Pistorius, media arrived at the hospital’s gate early yesterday morning and each car with tinted windows became the focus of their lenses.

A motorist in a Land Rover with tinted windows that is similar to the one driven by Pistorius’s uncle Arnold, got quite a fright when the media mistook him for Pistorius and thronged his vehicle.

Pistorius arrived at 8.50 am in the passenger seat of a black Chevrolet Cruze and stared ahead as he was photographed from all angles.

While he waited, he started talking on his phone, ignoring the lenses of cameras that were pressing against the car’s windows.

When he was let in, security quickly closed the black gates behind his vehicle.

His observation will continue each day until 4 pm or when the panel allows him to go.
