2009-08-25 00:00

LAST Wednesday the second round of fixtures in pool A and pool B of the Schools’ Midlands Rugby Academy Sevens took place at the Woodburn complex.

The earlier fixtures were played in pleasant overcast conditions, but the last few matches were completed in very cold and wet circumstances.

Michaelhouse 1 and Maritzburg College 1 are the two sides that will most probably contest the final as they have gone through unbeaten. As winners of the two pools they will first play the runners-up in the opposite pool. The winners of each of these semi-finals will then contest the final.

Tomorrow sees all the finals being played. Due to Maritzburg United playing soccer at Woodburn tomorrow, the Schools’ Sevens will be played on the Piet Booysen fields at the UKZN.

The Cup will be contested by the two sides that were at the top of each pool, Michaelhouse and Maritzburg College against Kearsney and Maritzburg College II respectively.

Those that will compete for the bowl will be the two teams that were third and fourth in each pool, Voortrekker against Howick and St Charles I against Treverton.

The sides placed fifth and sixth play for the shield. St Charles II will play Weston and Michaelhouse II will play Carter. Those filling the bottom two places, will play for position. St Charles Stayers will play Grace and Development will play Alex.

The losers from the above games will then play one another on the B field and the winners will play on the Stadium starting at 4.20 pm.

The first match will be the play-off, then the Bowl, followed by the Plate section and the Cup at 5.40 pm. The finals will be played over 10 minutes a half.
