Michaelhouse boys to represent KZN

2013-04-30 00:00

THE KZN Boys Inter-Schools tournament held in Pietermaritzburg at the weekend saw Michaelhouse determined to defend the title they had won for the previous three years.

The boys’ A section comprised two pools of four and three teams each. Pool 1 was contested by Westville, Maritzburg College, Howick and Glenwood, and the level of squash played by these four sides was very impressive considering the heat on the courts. Pool 2 was made up of defending champions Michaelhouse, Kearsney and St Charles. Cross-pool play-offs ultimately produced a final between Michaelhouse and Glenwood, played at the Epworth complex.

This proved to be a very tense battle, which Michaelhouse won at numbers five, four, two and one, and thus ensured the KZN title for the boys from Balgowan for the fourth consecutive year. Westville beat Kearsney in the play-off for third place.

The victorious Michaelhouse team of Nic van der Bos (captain), Kenyon Smith, Luke Stevens, James Laidlaw and Victor Foster will now represent the province at the SA Top Schools tournament in August.
