Michaelhouse host Westville

2012-10-13 00:00

THE weather this past week made practicing almost impossible in most schools and certainly puts games in doubt today. Nevertheless, it is the first Saturday of the final term where most schools have just four or five matches and they will be keen to get underway.

Michaelhouse host Westville in one of the better games today. Both teams had some of the better results in the province during the first term. Michaelhouse have just returned from a tour of Zimbabwe where they won half their matches. Westville have not been involved in a school’s match since their last game at the end of last season, as both matches were rained out last term.

Michaelhouse batsmen certainly had some good knocks, with two centuries and five other occasions where batsmen scored over 80, but it was the bowling that let them down in the matches that they lost.

With Westville having some senior batsmen this is an area where the home bowlers will have to do well if they wish to win today.

In Durban, the hotly contested game will be at DHS where they host Kearsney. In a Michaelmas Week where the KZN sides did not do very well, DHS had some of the better results and they will want to continue after two successive wins in their last two matches.

Kearsney were not involved at Michaelmas week this year and after both their games were rained off at the end of last quarter, will hope to get the term off to a good start.

Maritzburg College and Hilton meet for the fourth time this year, with the game at College.

Hilton won two of the three matches, a T20 and the final of the Sunfoil league. College won the Saturday game at Hilton. The latter will feel that they have an advantage.

Neither of the two schools had a good Michaelmas week, where each won just the one match, Hilton beating St Andrews and College winning against St Albans. It will be a close encounter, but it will need the senior College players to perform if they want to win.

St Charles, who had a poor Michaelmas Week, where they lost all four games, travel to play Glenwood on Dixons. Glenwood won two of their four games at the Week and with home ground advantage, will be firm favourites. It will require a massive effort by the Maritzburg lads if they want to win today.
