Microsoft summits in Durban

2008-07-10 00:00

Microsoft SA’s decision to hold its flagship Partner Summit and TechEd annual events in Durban this year will be worth millions of rands to the local economy, as more than 3 000 IT professionals from across the country descend on the city in August.

The events, which will run back to back from August 3 to 8 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre (ICC), are highlights of the software maker’s annual calendar.

The Partner Summit and TechEd events are expected to draw more than 3 000 delegates, and accommodating them is expected to result in a minor boom for the local hospitality industry and businesses, said eThekwini mayor Obed Mlaba.

"Durban is no stranger to hosting major business events, and Microsoft’s decision to host these events in our city means that our enthusiasm for growth, change and development has not gone unnoticed," said Mlaba.

The Partner Summit will culminate in a glittering Partner Awards function on August 7, at which Microsoft’s top-performing partners will be recognised for their ongoing contribution to the company’s success.
