Midmar: Man (32) drowns

2011-12-05 00:00

A 32-YEAR-old man drowned in Midmar Dam yesterday.

The drowning happened just after the Capital K swimming event at the dam yesterday afternoon, but was not connected with it. The event is the biggest qualification race for the Midmar Mile.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the unidentified man was on a picnic with friends when the accident happened.

“What we heard from the police on the scene was that the man went into the dam for a swim and he experienced some difficulties and drowned. So far we don’t have any details about his family or relatives,” said Zwane. A police source said the man lived in Bulwer Street, Pietermaritzburg.

Zwane said an inquest docket has been opened by the Howick police.
