Miller off to India to join IPL outfit

DAVID Miller may have missed the World Cup boat, but the hard-hitting batsman has had a double dose of good news recently.

Fresh from the news that he has sealed a deal to play Twenty20 cricket for Durham on the county circuit, he has now been scooped up by the Kings XI Punjab and will be in India for the lucrative IPL.

“I am buzzing at the moment, it has been a manic few days,” the powerful left-hander told The Witness last night.

“I thought I was going to have a few weeks off before going to England, play a bit of golf,” he explained.

“But my agent called to say she had very big news, and next thing I was talking to the owner of the Punjab side,” he added.

Miller’s credentials as a finisher are in no doubt, and he was regarded as somewhat unlucky to not make it onto the Proteas squad for the ill-fated World Cup campaign.

Since then, he has found some encouraging form for the Dolphins, which culminated in a fighting hundred against the Lions over the weekend.

“To be honest, I have felt in good nick, but I just wasn’t converting that into scores,” he said.

“So it was great to make some runs when the side needed it, and I am just hoping to carry on in that vein in India,” he added.

Miller faces a hectic few days, as he flies to Cape Town tomorrow to iron out a visa application, before jetting off to India via Dubai.

“I am just so keen to get over there to show what I can do,” he added.
