Miller to join in Durham’s

2011-03-26 00:00

BIG-HITTING Proteas and Dolphins middle-order batsman David Miller has signed for a maiden stint in county cricket with Durham.

The dynamic 21-year-old, who has represented South Africa in 13 one-day internationals and six Twenty20 internationals, joins the north-east outfit just for their domestic T20 campaign in 2011.

It will be valuable experience for Miller, and very much in the national interest for him to sample more cricket in some illustrious foreign climes.

Whilst this has been a more moderate summer than last for him on the South African franchise scene, and he did not make the South African World Cup squad partly as a result, he almost certainly still has a bright future ahead of him in national colours, given his obvious clean, long hitting ability.

Miller will join fellow KwaZulu-Natalian Dale Benkenstein at Chester-le-Street.

Benkenstein, also a former Proteas all-rounder has been on their books for many years and the veteran will captain Durham in all limited-overs formats this season.

Coach Geoff Cook was quoted by the BBC on Thursday as saying, “He (Miller) has got a huge reputation and a lot of potential.”
