Mkhize signs giant 2010 jersey as token of KZN readiness

2010-02-05 00:00

KZN Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize’s signature on the massive soccer jersey touring the country has rubber- stamped the state of provincial readiness for the World Cup.

The signature on the massive Adidas Bafana Bafana jersey was KwaZulu-Natal’s first after 83 852 people in other provinces signed.

Kokstad Mayor Mbulelo Sithole was the second person to sign, representing Kokstadians on a campaign of uniting South Africans in support of Bafana Bafana.

Mkhize urged South Africans to give tireless support to Bafana Bafana.

“We do not necessarily need to win the trophy, because we have already won by hosting the Fifa World Cup, even though we have gone through a very difficult time of recession where many people have lost jobs,” said Mkhize.

He said winning the trophy will be a bonus for the country.

“The rest of the African continent is happy that we are hosting the Fifa World Cup for the first time in Africa,” said Mkhize.

“It has also made it possible for South Africa to invest a huge amount of money in building infrastructure, which created training and job opportunities and will also boost tourism as many visitors will come here even after the world cup,” said Mkhize.
