Mkhize told king of his decision

2013-08-23 00:00

OUTGOING Premier Zweli Mkhize paid a visit to Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini at Nongoma on Tuesday to notify him about his decision to step down.

“We can confirm that the premier had an interaction with his majesty to express his appreciation to him as a mentor and a counsellor,” Mkhize’s spokesperson Ndabe Sibiya said.

“He has worked together with His Majesty while he was the MEC for Health, the MEC for Economic Development and then as the premier.”

“He [Zwelithini] is the one who made the call to resuscitate the practice of circumcision of men and his decision has mobilised the fight against HIV/Aids.

“He was in the forefront of rural development so it made sense for Mkhize to inform His Majesty of the developments,” Sibiya said.

A spokesperson for King Zwelithini said he was not in a position to comment.
