Money, meat wait to be claimed

2011-01-27 00:00

HILTON police are appealing for the owners of coins in bank bags and bags of meat to come forward and claim the items, which were taken from arrested suspects.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said police were tipped off about two teenagers in the Mbupshana area in Sweetwaters who were found with two kilograms of frozen meat from Oscars, a local meat supplier, and an undisclosed amount of coins in bank packets.

No cases of theft have been opened in connection with the recoveries. Jeevan said both suspects have been positively linked to other housebreaking cases in the area. The suspects, aged 15 and 16, will appear in court shortly.

Anyone from whom these items have been stolen is urged to call Warrant Officer Andrew Salzwedel at 033 845 6522 or 074 103 3202.

In another incident, security guards and the police dog unit arrest two of three suspects after a robbery at F&M Salvages in Yarborough Road, Mkondeni on Tuesday night.

Mthembeni Zuma (25), the security guard on duty, was confronted by three men, one armed, while patrolling.

Zuma managed to escape and contacted his supervisor on his cellphone. As the suspects ran away security officers managed to tackle one and police dogs brought a second down. Police say they are closing in on the third suspect.
