More carnage on KZN roads

2007-12-24 00:00

A serious collision in Regina Road in Northdale on Friday evening has left a driver, his passenger and a pedestrian in critical conditions.

Paramedics described the scene of the accident as carnage.

“The driver was lying on the ground next to the mangled wreck, the passenger was trapped in the vehicle and the pedestrian was pinned against the fence,” said Chris Botha, of Netcare 911.

All three patients were rushed to various hospitals in Pietermaritzburg. Police said that a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened. The pedestrian, identified only as E. Essack, had allegedly been working on his car at the side of the road when he was struck by the car.

Meanwhile, a truck travelling in the wrong direction on the M4 Northbound near Sibaya Casino, collided head-on with a motor vehicle shortly after midnight on Saturday morning. The driver of the car died on the scene from his injuries, said Botha.

The truck driver and his passengers sustained only minor injuries.
