More ministers quit

2014-05-31 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Another three former cabinet ministers have resigned from Parliament. The move by S’bu Ndebele, Lulu Xingwana and Maria Ntuli followed Thursday’s resignation of Max Sisulu, who was dumped as Speaker.

Parliament spokesperson Luzuko Jacobs confirmed that all three ANC members handed in their resignations yesterday.

Ndebele, who had served as minister of Correcitonal Services, told sister paper Die Burger this week that he was satisfied with his political career, having served as an MEC and as premier of KZN before going to Parliament and serving two cabinet terms.

Xingwana had been a controversial minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities. The ministry has been shifted to the Presidency, with Susan Shabangu in charge.

Ntuli was previously deputy minister of Social Development.

Earlier in the week, Marthinus van Schalkwyk quit after also failing to find a place in the new cabinet.
