Motor event will set your pulse racing

SPEED and flexing tyre muscle will definitely set the pulse racing when the Ballito Street Heroes event takes place, which is set to turn Ballito into a motor enthusiast’s paradise this weekend.

The iLembe Chamber of Commerce and Ballito Auto SMD are organising the event at the Laguna Seca Industrial Estate on Saturday and Sunday.

“Motorsport runs deep in our veins, it is part of our DNA,” said Vaughn Williams from SMD Ballito Auto.

Already involved in the Ford Racing Team taking part in the national production series, Williams said it was only natural they bring some of the world’s fastest supercars to race around a 1,5 km time trial track in their home town.

“We sponsored the Ballito Street Heroes event because we understand the gap between driving your car on the road and racing it on the track is vast. We wanted people to experience motorsport at an affordable price and in a safe environment,” he explained.

“The SMD Group currently has its dealership in Ballito, but we are in the process of adding on a Land Rover and Jaguar dealership as well, which is due to open in December this year. Our brand started with Ford and Mazda, but we felt we needed to expand into the luxury market,” said Williams.

No doubt after the Ballito Street Heroes event there will be increased interest in the supercharged V8s that the two brands will offer.

The Ballito Street Heroes event will not only see supercars racing against the clock, but muscle car favourites, sports cars, customised street cars, an off roaders’ area, a car sound-off competition, classic and vintage car displays, a Formula One car display, a show and shine competition, a dyno test competition, a general exhibition area for the public, and other exciting features.
