Motorists urged to be careful as Metro FM Awards come to DBN

2015-02-28 00:00

WITH Metro FM Awards set to take place in Durban tonight, traffic officials urged motorists to exercise caution, amid an influx of visitors to the city.

The Metro FM Awards attract scores of people from across the country and neighbouring countries annually, and will be staged at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban. A number of related events will take place in the city, also attracting thousands of people.

KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Willies Mchunu warned music lovers and visitors against errant behaviour on the roads.

He urged road users to avoid excessive speeding, drinking and driving, driving unroadworthy vehicles, driving recklessly, driving without proper documentation and overloading.

Traffic enforcement teams have been deployed to monitor roads.

Mchunu has urged celebrities to lead by example on the road by obeying the rules, saying their positive behaviour can go a long way in inspiring other road users to take full responsibility.

Mchunu’s comments come after reports that well-known actor Siyabonga Thwala was nabbed for allegedly speeding and driving off upon receiving his driver’s licence back from an RTI officer, who was yet to issue a fine for the offence.
