Mpisane gives Umlazi its own makeover

SPORTING a hard hat, stilettos, overalls and manicured nails — businesswoman Shauwn Mpisane spent 67 minutes giving Umlazi its own makeover.

Mpisane and her entourage, which included Premier Senzo Mchunu and a host of local celebs, arrived at the township in flashy BMWs and Mercs.

Often in the news for more controversial reasons, this time around Mpisane and her madeup crew, visited Umlazi watched by an excited crowd, waiting to see the celebrities who flanked the businesswoman.

The Zikhulise group owned by Mpisane, made their way through Durban handing over two houses to the value of R600 000, giving away scores of blankets and distributing food parcels, while also doing a clean-up.

Earlier they were spotted in Pietermaritzburg painting an orphanage.

“Sharing is giving and it is better to be on the giving side,” said ­Mpisane.

Among the celebrities involved were Anga Makhubalo and Sindi Buthelezi from the soapie Generations and Pearl Modiadie from ­Zaziwa.

“This was an amazing experience and I am so happy to see everyone happy. This is one of the best contributions I have ever given in my life,” said Makhubalo.

Lorna Masuku from Top Billing who also joined in the proceedings said: “This is really cool, to come give our time to people. Mandela left a great legacy and I love giving back.”

Mchunu, who also got his hands dirty in Pietermaritzburg, said that the day proved to be a very “exciting Nelson Mandela Day in KwaZulu-Natal”.

“We listened to the president’s call to clean up our country and we did that,” he said.
