Mpumuza: cop van crashes into house

2011-11-02 00:00

A FAMILY of four in Mpumuza narrowly escaped death when a police van crashed into their home on Sunday while they were watching television.

Buyi Zwane, a mother of two, said she was in the sitting room with one of her children while her husband was asleep in the bedroom when she heard a big bang. She said it was at about 8 pm when the accident happened.

Zwane said she could not believe her eyes when she saw the police van in her living room.

“It was a miracle that none of us got injured. The television stand broke and one sofa that no one was sitting on was broken as the police van pushed the wall and was only blocked by the fridge from coming over to the side we were sitting on,” said Zwane.

Zwane said they ran outside and three police officers were in the car and a female officer was driving.

She said her only wish is that their home can be rebuilt as she is the only one working as a general worker at a butchery in town.

Community member Mdu Zuma said: “We are calling on anyone who can help this family rebuild the house as the police systems will take forever.”

The KZN police had not commented by the time of going to press.
