‘Mr Magic’ has no sleepless nights

FIRED charismatic radio personality Linda “Mr Magic” Sibiya has no sleepless nights about being hauled off the air. Sibiya, who had been with Ukhozi FM for 18 years was fired by the SABC recently amid allegations of misrepresentation and fraud.

He told The Witness yesterday that DStv’s Mzansi Magic channel had told him that they would increase the number of episodes of his show Sifunu’ukwazi from 26 to 280 episodes. The show discusses a variety of topics on issues affecting the public. It started screening on Thursday, November 7 at 6.30 pm.

Sibiya said this was an exciting moment in his career.

“This is a life-changing experience, it’s exciting. I see this as a great platform to make a difference in people’s lives. We are talking about issues that affect us as people,” he said.

He said Mzansi Magic approached him for the role and he saw an opportunity, and accepted the offer. “They [Mzansi Magic] approached me and proposed that I host the show talking about different issues affecting the people. At first, I was given 26 episodes but after seeing the feedback from the viewers, the station gave me a total of 280 episodes to work on. I’m not jobless, I have my own company and now I have this talk show. I have no hard feelings towards SABC for dismissing me. I was and am still passionate about that station [Ukhozi],” said Sibiya.

He said he was spending two weeks in Durban and two weeks in Gauteng. Sibiya said the show, which is currently screened on Thursdays at 6.30 pm, had since been moved to 8 pm from May, an indication that it was a success. Sibiya, former host of Ukhozi’s breakfast show Vuka Mzansi, said he could not explain why he was fired. He is challenging his sacking and he said his representatives will meet with the broadcaster soon.
