Msunduzi Municipality responds

2011-02-01 00:00

THE municipality’s response was left out of report on the vandalised SA Football Association (Safa) offices in yesterday’s Witness.

Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson Brian Zuma responded: “It is rather unfortunate that an association that represents a code of sport enjoyed by the majority of our people does not have offices to operate from. But again the situation with the municipality has been and still is business unusual.

“We are currently testing the market to see if it is a viable option to lease out sporting infrastructure, including soccer fields and buildings, to clubs and/or associations to manage and maintain while they have total control over such infrastructure. This, if it’s a successful venture, will mean that associations and/or clubs will have what they can call their homes.”

Zuma said he would facilitate a meeting with the relevant officials, before convening a meeting with Safa to look into several issues, including at what level the municipality should engage and, where possible, assist Safa.

“I am saying this to clarify that we as Msunduzi Municipality, should be careful not to shoulder a responsibility that perhaps lies with uMgungundlovu District Municipality, or the Provincial Department of Sports and Recreation,” he added. The Witness apologies for the omission.
