Msunduzi uproots invaders

2014-08-28 00:00

TENSIONS ran high yesterday when Msunduzi Municipality security guards demolished informal dwellings erected by land invaders at Otto’s Bluff near Woodlands.

The guards, traffic officers and police were demolishing the dwellings when the community came out in numbers to prevent them from continuing.

Angry land invaders told the officials to leave as they did not have an order to remove them.

“We are all waiting for the court to rule about this land. Why are they demolishing our properties when a court has not made any ruling?” said one, who did not want to be named.

The group vowed that they would not leave the land until the court hands down judgment.

The municipality filed papers in the high court earlier this month for the invaders to be removed from Otto’s Bluff, Lotus Park and adjacent to Northdale Stadium. An application to find the illegal occupiers in contempt of a court order, and to authorise their arrest, was rejected by the court last week. The outcome of the application is expected on September 11.
