Multiple accidents claim two lives

2014-11-03 00:00

A STRING of accidents across KZN this weekend have left two dead and 22 people injured.

According to a source who cannot be named, a vehicle travelling along the N3 nearing Nottingham Road overturned last night. “The car veered off the road, overturned and hit the barrier of Balgowan bridge.”

It was confirmed that one person died at the scene while the two passengers were seriously injured.

A hit-and-run incident resulted in a pedestrian being killed while crossing the R56 near Thornville on Friday night.

In an accident reported by Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha, five people were injured yesterday morning when their car rolled down an embankment near Wartburg.

Botha said paramedics had to climb down a 10-metre embankment with their equipment to treat the patients.

Botha said it was unclear what the cause of the accident was.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said this was the season for bad weather.

“We are experiencing bad weather where some areas of the road become extremely wet and slippery. We urge people to drive cautiously and follow the speed limit,” said Mngomezulu.
