Murder: A blow to Esikhawini woman’s family

2013-02-28 00:00

THE family of a young woman whose body was found in a shallow grave at Esikhawini on Tuesday, said she was their hope for a better life.

The murder of Esikhawini FET student Londiwe Mngomezulu (22) came as a blow to the family, spokesperson Philani Mathenjwa said.

“This was a child that worked hard for her education and wanted to change the life of her family. No one at her home is working. She was in a learnership programme that was supporting her in her hospitality studies,” he said.

Mngomezulu’s body was found by municipal workers in a shallow grave in a forest at Esikhawini on Tuesday.

She was reported missing to the police on February 16 after her room-mates noticed she was gone.

Her family in Ngwavuma was also notified.

Her cousin, Thulile Mathenjwa, said they grew up together. “She was dedicated to making her parents happy all the time. She wanted to be the best person for her family. I will miss her love and courage,” she said.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said two men were arrested for Mngomezulu’s murder and are expected to appear in the Esikhawini Magistrate’s Court today.

“The motive for killing the woman is unknown.”
