Murder: Police kill suspect

2008-10-22 00:00

A SUSPECT in the murder of Mary Louise Visagie (38), a business woman who was killed in front of her two children last week, was killed during a shoot-out with police yesterday.

Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said police were fired on when they went to arrest two suspects and retaliated, killing one of the men.

Mdunge said the second will appear in court soon. He said the suspects had .45-calibre firearms, which have been taken for ballistic testing.

Visagie, who was well known in the entertainment business in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, was killed when two armed men entered her house on the night of October 18.

They demanded her car keys, but suddenly fired a shot, wounding her, and she later died as she could not get help.

Her two children, who are four and six years old, stayed with her body all night, scared to go to a neighbour, and only sought help at 7 am.

Visagie was the owner of Scaramouche restaurant in Hillcrest, among other businesses.

Visagie’s close friend Tosh Leander-von Poncet said friends will be having a picnic gathering at Monteseel View near Inchanga in her memory at 10 am on Saturday.

Visagie’s funeral arrangements had not been released at the time of writing.
