Murder: bodyguard gets bail after killing cousin

2010-09-30 00:00

THE man believed to be uMngeni Mayor Edward Dladla’s bodyguard was released on R1 500 bail by the Howick magistrate yesterday.

Mlungisi Nkomo (35) was arrested after shooting his cousin Jabulani Nkomo (30) on Sunday evening.

The court granted Nkomo bail on two conditions: that he does not contact state witnesses or attend his cousin’s funeral.

People who came to support him said the deceased was very close to Nkomo.

One supporter, Zonke Ngubane, said the two were inseparable and that the killing was an accident.

Police reported that Nkomo was driving home with his wife and the deceased when an argument between the wife and husband ensued.

The argument was about Nkomo’s driving abilities. He stopped the car and got out after which his wife took up the driver’s seat.

It is alleged that Nkomo took out his municipal-owned pistol and fired a shot through the windscreen which narrowly missed his wife.

She sped off. When she arrived home she discovered that Jabulani had been shot dead.
