Murder victim was abused

2014-04-22 00:00

NELISWA ”Nelly” Nzuza’s family was shocked to hear that their daughter had been abused for some time until she was finally killed by her abuser on Friday.

The 36-year-old mother of three, and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) councillor, was stabbed to death by a man known to her. The Witness cannot identify the man as he is yet to appear in court.

Nzuza, of Ekuvukeni, near Ladysmith, was stabbed several times, with her attacker killing her in full view of the congregation praying at a local school hall.

Her uncle, Phangisani Nzuza, said the family was shocked to hear that she had been abused for some time before she was killed at a Good Friday church service. “We had no idea that our daughter had lived such a traumatic life in the hands of someone known to her.”

Indaka IFP constituency chairperson Bhekokwakhe Majola said they were aware that Nelly was “troubled”, but said she had a way of convincing people that all was well.

Nelly will be buried at her home on Sunday. Provincial police said her killer would appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today.
